Mouth ulcers and growths are fairly common. There are a wide variety of conditions that manifest as ulcers of growths in the mouth. Red patches in the mouth are usually painful as they are indication of some degree of inflammation though there are some that are painless. White patches in the mouth may be indicative of something sinister or it may just be "callouses".
