Thank you for requesting for our Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) Summary!

TMD is a common problem. Our jaw joint is a unique joint in that both left and right side work together and simultaneously. No other joint in the body does that. It is also a joint that has both hinge rotation as well as translational movement. It is also the most used joint particularly when we sleep. Disorders of the joint (TMD) commonly manifest as pain, clicking on opening and closing and in some cases, a locked jaw that cannot open.
