What Makes up the Cost of Dental Implants in Singapore?

Written by S L Chan | July 18, 2014

Dental implants are the standard of care today for missing teeth for a lot of good reasons. Among their advantages is better oral health, since they offer what no other tooth replacement option can; protection against bone loss in the jaw. Additionally, dental implants last longer than other options, an average of 25 years, compared to the 5 to 7 year lifespans of dentures or bridges. They also offerbetter oral function, preserving a patient's ability to bite and chew normally, and better outcomes in terms of comfort and aesthetics, since they look and feel like natural teeth. However, dental implants do cost more – at least in upfront fees – than other options, a factor that many dental implant patients are concerned about as they plan their care. So just what makes up the cost of dental implants in Singapore?

Factors That Make Up the Cost of Dental Implants Singapore

If you'll be having implant-based dental restoration, it's important to realize that it is a process that is done in a number of steps, and each one of those steps has its own associated costs. The first of these is a consultation appointment with a Singapore oral and maxillofacial surgeon, who will examine your oral and overall health to determine whether dental implants are right for you, and if so, suggest a treatment plan. The fee for that consultation will be your first expense of the implant process, and your surgeon's office will be able to inform you of the cost of that visit.

During that consultation appointment your Singapore oral surgeon will determine whether you will need preparatory procedures, like bone grafting or a sinus lift, to better ensure the success of your implants. If so, any such procedures are the next step in the process. As treatment planning progresses, your surgeon should be able to give you an estimate of the costs associated with any procedures you may need.

If you have no need for preparatory procedures, you'll move straight to the next step in the process, which is the placement of your implants –  the foundation upon which your dental restoration will be built.  The cost of your implant placement procedure will be determined by a number of factors, including the type of implants used, the number of implants you need and the type of procedure used, all of which will be outlined in advance as part of treatment planning. Your Singapore oral surgeon will be able to give you a breakdown of the costs associated with this step of the dental implant process.

Once your implants are placed and have had time to bond with the jawbone – a process called osseointegration – you will work with your restorative dentist to have your replacement teeth designed, fitted and placed onto your dental implants. Depending upon on your needs, this may include single crowns, implant-supported bridges or a full arch of replacement teeth. Called restorative treatment, this is the final step in your implant-based dental restoration, and the costs will vary significantly from one patient to another. However, your restorative dentist will be able to advise you as to the costs of each option offered for your dental restoration needs.

According to the Singapore Dental Health Foundation, patients can expect the combined costs of the various steps of the dental implant process to total between $3500 to $6000 per implant, depending upon the complexity of each case. Your personal dental health care team will be able to give you an accurate appraisal of just where your expenses will fall within that range.
